The work presents wooden stairs seemingly absorbed by a wall. Constructed in an empty space, the installation is designed to evoke unease. Can these still be called stairs once they have lost their function? Where are they meant to lead if they no longer reach any destination?
The graphics applied to the steps symbolize the memories accumulated over a person’s lifetime. For a while, the imagery remains almost intact, then gradually begins to fade. The piece also includes a space for the caregiver of a person with Alzheimer’s—a viewer who is invited to ask questions and confront their own reflections. The artist highlights the difficult choices and sacrifices often faced by children, spouses, or siblings of those who are ill. Frequently, they navigate this responsibility without support from family or the state, taking on the burdens of care at the cost of their own sense of security and peace.
